What does a Pinterest Virtual Assistant (or VA) actually do?

Before you begin thinking about jumping into the online business world as a Pinterest virtual assistant, you'll want some basics on what you could actually do day in and day out in this new business venture.

A Pinterest VA typically:

-Manages pins and boards on behalf of others

-Uploads images and creates descriptions

-Creates pins for products or services

-Updates bios, website links, etc.

-Interacts with other pinners by pinning their content

The tasks involved in being a Pinterest virtual assistant can be time-consuming, but if you're organized and have a knack for detail, it can also be a very rewarding experience.

How to Become a Pinterest Manager: Tips and Strategies for Success

Now that we know what a Pinterest virtual assistant does, let's discuss some tips and strategies for becoming successful in this field.

Here are five key points to keep in mind if you're thinking about becoming a Pinterest manager:

1. Pin Frequency

When it comes to pinning online, the sheer volume of pins and descriptions can be overwhelming and exhausting. By creating boards for your clients and following their guidelines, you'll find that you're more efficient in your daily pinning – not to mention that uploading images can become an amazing opportunity for your business to expand.

2. A Good Eye

Pinterest is visually based, so you'll need to be adept at searching for images that are related to your client's niche or industry. You may even want to set up some type of image bank on Evernote or Pinterest itself with the most common images related to the topics you cover.

3. SEO is Your Friend

One of your most important tasks as a Pinterest virtual assistant is to make sure that all pins include the appropriate product or website link with keywords and descriptions – which can be tedious work if you don't know anything about search engine optimization. Thankfully Pinterest does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. Learning how to find the best keywords to help your clients' pins show up in search is critical to your success as a Pinterest VA.

4. Cross-Promoting is Key

One of the best ways to get noticed online is by sharing other people's content -- with one catch: make sure that they pay it forward too! Pinning others content can help Pinterest figure out what a new account is all about, helping lay a foundation for the client's pins to get in front of the right audience. Group boards and TailWind communities are worth checking out for client's pins to be added to and then reciprocate by pinning other members relevant content to the client's boards.

5. Embrace the Rules

Pinterest has some pretty strict rules around copyright infringement and commercial promotion – even if it is for business purposes. For this reason, you'll want to make sure that all of your pinning follows the Pinterest policies and guidelines. Most of these rules are common sense and simple to follow, so it is a pretty low-stress platform.

By keeping these five tips in mind, you'll be on your way to becoming a Pinterest manager and building an online business around this virtual assistant role.

The next top question many women who are interested in becoming a Pinterest VA ask is:

How Much Can I Make as a Pinterest Virtual Assistant?

Pinterest is one of the most popular sites on the internet as it provides users with a virtual bulletin board where they can collect and share images from around the web.

This makes Pinterest an excellent place for anyone to start their own business –– and as more and more men and women seek out Pinterest assistance, they need someone to ensure that their boards and pins are up-to-date and that they're following all of Pinterest's rules.

Many women new to the virtual assistant industry ask, "How much do virtual assistants make?" The answer: it depends on your experience, skills, and expertise.

Here is a general guideline for how much you could potentially earn as a virtual assistant on Pinterest:

While many others may recommend that you start with an hourly rate, around $15/hour, I wholeheartedly disagree with working hourly as a Pinterest VA.

Working hourly can be very frustrating: keeping up with your hours, taking a cut in pay when you get more efficient at the services you are providing, and simply not being positioned as an expert in the working relationship with your clients.

Since you are positioning yourself as an expert, not simply saving your clients time by providing services they are capable of completing on their own, you can start with package prices and work on retainer - being paid the same amount monthly for your ongoing services.

Everyone's starting rate will vary, but most women I work with start out between $300-$400 a month for monthly management services as a Pinterest account manager.

As you get more experience and testimonials to back you up, I highly recommend raising your rates, allowing you to make even more while working the same amount of hours.

The time flexibility and uncapped income are the main reasons many moms become Pinterest managers, so they can work from home and provide for their family while keeping their priorities straight without the pressures of the corporate world.

Now that you know the ins and outs of Pinterest virtual assistant work, I'm sure you are eager to get started. Your next question will be:

How do I become a Pinterest VA myself?

Fortunately, there is no certification for becoming a Pinterest Virtual Assistant like some other platforms require. And since you are not signing up for a job but taking on clients, there is no company or application process.

Instead of spending time applying to Pinterest VA jobs, your best bet is to start promoting yourself as an expert.

To get started, here are some ideas for how to market yourself online:

You could create a polished-looking website that features your Pinterest management skills, but this process can be time-consuming and expensive. Instead, I recommend you create a free Facebook business page when you are just getting started and save the website for when you have consistent income and can hire help.

Your Facebook business page is your "storefront" online and will link to a place where potential clients can get in touch with you, like your email address or phone number. You can also get clients to write up testimonials and recommend your services on your business page.

Once you have that setup, find somewhere to start networking to connect with potential clients. I recommend Facebook groups, where you can join someone else's group and connect with people to build out your new business network.

You can show up, become a familiar face by joining in others' conversations and showcase your expertise by answering questions in these groups.

Your marketing is not limited to just networking in groups on Facebook –– there are tons of ways you can make yourself known as an expert in your industry.

One example would be hosting Pinterest Q&A sessions on Facebook or Clubhouse, where you answer questions and give tips on Pinterest marketing.

Don't be afraid to ask for testimonials and referrals, this can make a HUGE difference in how fast your business grows.
